Singapore Food Trail

Singapore food - The thing that most tourist or even locals will miss about Singapore. Here is some Singapore food that you have to try. Join us for our favourite Singapore Food Trail!

We have been missing Singapore food since the day we are at France. From Char Kway Teow (Fried Kway Teow) , to Orh Jian (Fried Oyster) to Laksa.

Every food in Singapore is so amazing!

And since we will be in Singapore for 2 weeks, we will have our Singapore Food Trail and revenge! And also meeting up with our friends and families!

Prior coming back to Singapore, we have been coordinating with our friends and family on dinner and lunch plans. Because we have short 2 weeks only, so every meet up is crucial and important.

And you get to meet friends as well as having the delicious local food. Why not?

Quick Navigation

Day 1 (Sunday) - Singapore Food Trail

We touched down Changi Airport at 7am. Got into our car and off we go.

While driving we were still contemplating to eat at Bedok for the Fishball Noodle or Clementi for the porridge. But the Fish Ball Noodle don't open so early. Hence we decided to head to Clementi Food Centre for our porridge.

Breakfast: Clementi Food Centre

Then! We realised, the Soon Lee Porridge that we are craving for is not open on Sunday.

And the carrot cake queue is so long. So in the end, we ordered the most convenient ones. The economic bee hoon, with add-on ingredients.

From our friend's feedback, that is not the best stall. But being 1 year away from Singapore, the bee hoon noodle taste really good. Any time, more better than my cooking.

We also missed my mum's home cooked food. And since we are staying nearby, I suggested why not do a gathering with my neighbours as well.

So here we have a super big gathering of family and neighbours. 14-16 of them.

Those food are cooked by my mum, single handedly. Awesome right?

Just nice my buddy taking off on Monday. So he drove me to JB for lunch and massage.

The lunch Bak Kut Teh was quite good, but I guess I was still full from the breakfast. For a pot of Bak Kut Teh with many varieties of ingredients, it only cost RM 45 / SGD 15 / €10 ! And this is for 2 person, including drinks.

Dinner was awesome too! Been craving for this Ngoh Hiang Prawn Cracker for the longest and very blessed to have it for our 2nd day, dinner.

The bee hoon is tasty and fragrant. Only cost S$1 for 1 serving. And the ingredients cost less than $10. Usually, for such variteties of ingredient will cost S$15 at some other places.

The chilli sauce that comes with it is very nice too. Try it to believe.

Breakfast: Ah Lian Bee Hoon

Ah Lian Bee Hoon - Less than S$4

Ah Lian Bee Hoon - Less than S$4

Meet another buddy, Goo Goo at Pioneer MRT for breakfast. Just nice, he can step out for a quick coffee.

Ah Lian Bee Hoon is famous for those working in the west or Tuas area. The bee hoon and chicken wing is something that you must order.

Probably is the fast turnover of the bee hoon, hence their food are always piping hot and fresh.

Met my Uncle at NTU Food Court 2 for lunch, still full from the breakfast again. But still, had sumptuous lunch.

The grilled pork rib is something that you should try if you are at the Food Court.

I think they should rename NTU Food Court 2 to Little China Town. Their food varieties are mostly China cuisines. Even the Yong Tau Foo does not taste Singaporean style. They have the Mala condiments lor!

Dishes for 3 person - Less than S$20

Joo Seng Teo Chew Porridge is our usual dinner or supper fix. Usually Teochew porridge is expensive if you order their fish. So we usually avoid ordering fish, but will other ingredients.

Their duck meat are some thing that goes well with porridge.

Day 4 - Singapore Food Trail

Breakfast: Carrot Cake @ Toa Payoh Lor 1

Toa Payoh White Carrot Cake

Toa Payoh White Carrot Cake

Got introduced to the Chey  Sua Carrot cake at 127 Toa Payoh Lor 1 Food Centre. And since, I am still craving for the Hokkien Prawn Noodle. So why not make it a breakfast trip for that, as I am also meeting my primary school mate at Toa Payoh.

Sadly, the hokkien Prawn Mee (Tian Tian Lai) is not open on Wednesday. So I can only eat the carrot cake, and it comes with only the white carrot cake style.

Not something I will queue very long for though.

Lunch: Heng Gi Duck Rice @ Tekka Food Centre

With my primary sch mates

With my primary sch mates

All time favourite for duck rice. This duck rice is served traditionally with rice bowl, chopstick and spoon.

When in Singapore, I will have this like once a week as I used to work around the area.

Braised style duck, the sauce is something to worth craving for. I usually order a duck neck to go with it, because for S$1 more, you have some addition meat.

The chilli is also very appetizing. Not like the usual sambal chilli oil for duck rice, this is more too spicy sour kind.

Craving fulfilled.

Tea Time: Creamier Handcrafted Ice Cream And Coffee

Ice Cream Waffle!

Ice Cream Waffle!

While waiting for my school mate's car to be ready, we head to Creamier to jiak ice cream.

Like quite shiok hor, relax, eat ice cream for tea break.

I like this waffle ice cream, very crispy and tasty waffle. Not sloggy at all.

Mookata

If you are a mookata lover, you should know this pioneer Mookata at Golden Mile. I think should be the grandfather of mookata before numerous mookata eateries start to pop up.

What I like most is their marinated pork, very tasty when you BBQ on the hot plate. Then you dip in their special chilli sauce with lots of raw garlic. Maximum enjoyment for your taste bud.

Vegetarin Bee hoon - S$2.50

Just nice my friend got his key at his new house. And his new house is conveniently located bear Cheng San Food Centre at Ang Mo Kio ave 10.

The crispy beancurd is the specialty of Vegetarian Bee Hoon. This is also my favourite when I order vegetarian bee hoon.

Where ah?

Lunch: Mcdonald's

So heng this week in Singapore they are having the Samurai Burger promotion.

Now they have the chicken patty version, but I will always go for the beef version. The patty together with the sauce makes the burger very appetizing. Yumm!

For most dim sum lovers, you will know this 126 Dim Sum located at Geylang. This dim sum no horse run one. And what we like about this place is got aircon, but at a fraction of the price from restaurants.

Our usual favourites - Deep fried scallop, deep fried prawn, deep fried chicken wings, chee cheong fun and more others.

Their chilli sauce is also very unique, sambal style but taste sweet, saltish and spicy. Dip the deep fried dim sum in, woo lala~~

We were actually contemplating between Shangrila - The New Line buffet and having crabs for dinner.

Eventually crabs is still more tempting than having buffet. We settled for the House of Seafood at Punggol, because we want to have some seaview while having seafood.

This is more like an Atas Tze Char restaurant, service top notch, and food as well.

Particularly are the crabs, salted egg style and pepper crab!

Day 7 - Singapore Food Trail

Lunch: Yong Tau Foo @ Yew Tee Square

Laksa Yong Tau Foo with my deep fried ingredients

Laksa Yong Tau Foo with my deep fried ingredients

This place is a super ulu, bird never lay eggs place. If you stay in the North West and have to take your IPPT and RT, likely you will pass by this place to Kranji Camp.

We were still craving for Yong Tau Foo after our disappointing meal at NTU Food Court. So now eat this authentic, local style Yong Tau Foo.

But I also miss eating Laksa. So, I requested for the Laksa Gravy for S$1 more. One meal kill 2 birds.

They are tasty because they also deep fried their ingredients, and the fried meat ball is something that you must really try.

This one recommended by our Food Guru - Benjamin. He is always the one finding kang tao to eat for gathering. Very effort.

I don't really fancy steamboat fish head in the past, because usually they would be at Tze Char restaurant - no aircon one. So you sweat and eat, where got shiok?

But this Whampoa Keng is fully aircon, so you eat already won't sweat.

Just nice I was in the East, so Whatsapp my buddy if he is available for lunch. So we arranged lunch at Tampines Blk 280 Coffeeshop.

He always jio go there eat chicken rice one. Don't know is because the drinks stall assistant pretty or what. Then always order Teh Peng (Ice Tea).

Then we 3 person eat lunch like 5 person eat. Still order Yong Tau Foo also.

This  meal gaolat, lunch eat like a king sia!

Tea Break: Rojak @ Old Airport Food Centre

$4 Rojak

$4 Rojak

So since still at the East and running some errands, and again a cousin is free because his off day. So he bring me go Old Airport eat the famous rojak.

This rojak stall is call Toa Payoh rojak, but located at Old Airport Food centre. I wonder what is the story behind this. Because Toa Payoh also got their famous rojak and it taste equally good too. Just that the parking very mafan at Toa Payoh.

This one at Old Airport, easier to park.

I like this rojak because the You Tiao they mixed is crispy. They oven-grill it before mixing it together with the sauce. And their peanut topping is very generous also.

So, if you very gian for rojak, come here and give it try!

Where ah?

Hock Seng Choon Fish Ball Kway Teow Mee

Hock Seng Choon Fish Ball Kway Teow Mee

This is the stall that on Day 1 when we touched down , thinking want to come here and eat the Fish Ball Noodle anot.

During peak hours, the queue will cross the centre line and spill over one. My favourite fish ball noodle. Cannot think of anywhere that is as good as Hock Seng Choon Fish Ball Kway Teow Mee.

I usually will order the Mee Kia dry without chilli, because I enjoy the ketchup taste. They mix with other condiments, that the ketchup don't overwhelm the Mee Kia.

Then I take more sliced chilli padi to go with it. Maximum enjoyment for this bowl of Fishball Noodle.

Their Chilli version also very tasty, and spicy for some. But it is a favourite for the locals.

The fish ball is very bouncy and chewy also. Hear say is hand made one, because the fish ball not round.

The mee kia also very QQ. Because uncle will par boil the mee kia and rinse it with normal temperature water before parboiling it again.

Day 10 - Singapore Food Trail

Breakfast: Clementi Food Centre

Black Carrot Cake

Black Carrot Cake

Today meet a super busy man. My cousin. Need to make prior appointment with his wife secretary one. If not, very difficult to meet up with him.

Some more he stay Clementi, so eat at Clementi Food Centre is the best. Because there is so much yummy food there.

So, we break up our task, he go queue for the famous carrot cake and I queue for the Pork Porridge.

This carrot I find more yummy than the one at Toa Payoh, probably because I am a fan of Black Carrot cake. Then it is more salty somehow I think Black ones have more Cai Por (Salted Radish) and the dark sauce as well.

The pork porridge is stewed for like 7x7=49 hours kind. The porridge very smooth like Korean Actress face. You won't feel the rice grain in the porridge, and the meat they give also marinated one. Very good for a cooling weather that morning.

This one they order also like buffet, got Sting Ray, Carrot Cake, Orh Jian, Sambal Sotong, Satay, BBQ Chicken Wings.

And appreciate their effort for meet up because weekday usually hard to coordinate one.

Best of all, I get to eat my Ah Balling Peanut Tang Yuan with Peanut Soup. Still as good. And order a mug of sugar cane juice with sour plum.

The cannot make it char siew

Located near Gombak MRT and the Prime Supermarket, this Chicken rice stall is a hidden gem.

Their white chicken lam with their special created sauce makes the meal perfect. They usually serve with traditional bowl and chopstick one, but we always request for using plates , fork and spoon. If not, how you separate the chicken meat from the bone right?

But hor, don't order the char siew lah. The meat very tough like eating leather. Just order the chicken can already.

The aftermath..

The aftermath..

Another famous food centre in the East. Mostly popular during lunch and dinner. It is similar to Bedok 85 food, just that the place is more spacious and airy. There is also a huge parking lot beside it.

Although it is more accessible by car, but the place is still pretty pack during meal times.

There used to be one famous Satay Bee Hoon. but I think close shop already. And if you are earlier, can order the duck rice. Quite tasty too, but I still prefer my Tekka Duck rice.

So again with my 5 Tonner Army buddies, they order like for 10 people to eat.

This one really 4896! (Sibei Gaolat).

Day 12 - Singapore Food Trail

Lunch: Tanjong Pagar Food Centre

Tanjong Pagar Lor Mee

Tanjong Pagar Lor Mee

With my buddy sisters..

With my buddy sisters..

This food centre is popular with the office workers in CBD, and Tanjong Pagar. But you won't see so much office ladies dining here. Because they vain vain and don't like the smell in the Hawker.

Also understable lah, weather so hot, then still wear office wear come Hawker centre to eat. Go back office need to bathe in perfume then smell nice lor.

I worked here previously for many years, and favourite is the Lor Mee and the Nasi Lemak. But I am actually here for the Nasi Lemak.

Who knows, at 11.30am, my favourite Nasi Lemak sold out liao! WATTTTAAAAAAA!

My feeling at that time.

My feeling at that time.

Yes, at 11.30am uncle washing the stall already. I ask Uncle, why so early sold out. Uncle also smilingly reply, "Paiseh (Sorry) lah Ah Di, today don't know why sold out so fast"

I think Uncle very humble lor. I particularly like their Chilli Peanut Ikan Bilis which they also sell separately in containers. $2 / box. Very crispy and flavourful ikan bilis one.

Usually when you have nasi lemak peanut ikan bilis in box, it will be become soggy after awhile. But this stall one, can put in fridge 1-2 weeks and still very tasty.

When you bite the ikan bilis, the sambal chilli aroma will like explode in your mouth.

Hopefully the Uncle will stay there till we are back in Singapore again.

I miss your ikan bilis Uncle!

Wah I find this place very innovative. Lunch time is a food centre for the workers around the industrial area. Evening time is a more atas Food centre with all the restaurant franchise.

Some more we have gathering there, the space enough to hold like 18 people one shot and even more. Very good place for gatherings and makan. They even have live band (abit too loud), but free one mai hiam.

After walking around and thinking what to eat, we in the end order an expensive cheese fries for S$12 with miserable cheese topping. And also, the salted egg fried chicken wings. I think this one very popular, because at our table got 3 person order the same salted egg fried chicken.

Don't bother trying the rest, like the original and Chilli Crab one.

Just go for the salted egg fried chicken. Confirm guarantee chop nice!

Lunch: Roasted Duck @ Bugis

3 Combinations!

3 Combinations!

Another roasted duck specialist located at the coffeeshop opposite Bugis Plus. As always during lunch time the queue very long one, but 15-20mins maximum.

I like their 3 combination - Roasted Duck, Roasted Meat and Char Siew. And they are very generous with their yummy gravy. Simple yet delicious.

The chilli is something you must try also,

After eating this meal, we adjourned to a friend house for Mahjong session.

Mahjong is a weekly lifestyle for us Singaporean. Because Singapore is small, nowhere to go and we are not party animals. So usually a weekend night, we will spend an evening like 4-6 hours playing Mahjong.

I tell you this Airfryer is our saviour. Imagine you want to eat French fries. Normally you have to deep fry it. With this airfryer, you just need to put it in, 20 mins you have crispy fries. And it is healthier too. Because you don't even have to add any oil.

We miss our friends and family, as well as the local food so much that even 2 weeks is not enough.
