How we Cover Iceland Ring Road in 7 Days – Itinerary (Day 7) Reykjavik + Whale Watching

Iceland 7 Days - Reykjavik

Reykjavik is the Capital of Iceland. And we have booked a wonderful stay in Reykjavik. It is only 5 mins walking distance to the pier for whale watching tours.

And we only book the whale watching tour the night before via online. That is after checking if the weather is sunny enough.

Day 7 - Reykjavik Tour

First thing in the morning, we collected our Whale Watching ticket and head to the old harbour for coffee and breakfast.

There is a souvenir shop here which sells magnet souvenir 3-4x cheaper than what we saw at the Geyser.

They are selling at 200-250isk for the same magnet!

Whale Watching with Elding

After researching online for which tour agency to follow, we chose Elding because they have more reviews and they are one of the biggest operator in Iceland for whale watching.

Their boat is also huge too! The tickets are also not cheap - 10,990isk (S$ 140) for 3 hours of whale watching!

You have to collect the tickets and board the boat 15 minutes. But it is better go earlier because the popular spots will be taken up.

It takes 30mins to sail to the big sea where we saw dolphins and 1 x minke whale.

The whole journey was really like chasing the dolphins and whales. That area which I suspect is the gathering area for dolphins or whales. Maybe they have some lure or food to attract them over.

With 3 hours out in the sea, I was exhausted. It could be because of the waves and the rocking motion of the boat.

Oh, they provide sea sick pills too. I pop one before boarding the ship.

If there's a bigger whale, I would give a higher rating. If not, seeing a few dolphins and a small whale isn't worth S$ 140.

Eat: Icelandic Fish and Chips

Since we had a fantastic Fish and Chips meal during our Day 1, I reckon that other fish and chips will be good.

After googling, this fish and chips seem to be one of the popular ones and it is within walking distance.

Each of us order Fish and Chips and we shared 2 side dishes. I would say the fish and chips taste really good. The batter was deep fried, crispy and crunchy.

Side Dishes - The Garlic Potato taste good!

See: Hallgrimskirkja

Hallgrimskirkja is the largest and tallest Church in Iceland. From far, you should be able to see this structure in the city.

Parking is free around this area and you have abundance of parking lots. But perhaps we were there during the late afternoon.

There you have to pay 900isk (S$ 12+) to go up to the tower. I would say it is worth it to go up to get a 360 view of Reykjavik.

Do not worry about climb stairs, because an elevator will take you up and there is a short flight of stairs to climb.

Hallgrímskirkja (Icelandic pronunciation: [ˈhatl̥krimsˌcʰɪrca], church of Hallgrímur) is a Lutheran (Church of Iceland) parish church in Reykjavík, Iceland. At 74.5 metres (244 ft) high, it is the largest church in Iceland and among the tallest structures in Iceland.[1] The church is named after the Icelandic poet and clergyman Hallgrímur Pétursson (1614–1674), author of the Passion Hymns.[2]

Nice view up at the Tower. This 900isk is worthwhile!

Chasing the Aurora the 3rd Time

Since it is our last night, and our flight is 6am, we have ample time for the night. So we stocked up our snacks and beverages and headed out to somewhere not cloudy to hunt for the Aurora.

Initially we were near to Reykjavik, but as the time passes, the area start to get cloudy. So we moved our camp further and further until Kerið Car Park which is 1 hour + away from Reykjavik.

We cannot move too far away because the further we shift, the further we are from the airport.

Fatigue is my concern, because we will be driving in the dark.

But we were blessed, Aurora came when we were at the Kerið Car Park.

Love Iceland!

Overall, this trip is magical and awesome! We had great experience with all the attractions, accommodation, food and the road trip!

But of course, the cost of eating out is expensive! But we kept it low by preparing our own dinner and snacks.

But still, paying 200isk is expensive! Glad we did not need to pay any.

For those that have only 7 days in Iceland, you can do the Ring Road Drive, and follow our itinerary.

Daily we left home at 11am and reach our next accommodation no later than 9pm.
