4 Days Itinerary in Munich Germany

For our 10 days trip, we actually planned for a 4 Days 3 Nights in Munich, Germany. Having been to the big cities in Germany, Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne. Munich is another one in our travel plans.

Klook.com

Mainly for Munich, most of the tourist will visit the Neuschwanstein Castle. That is the main highlight of the itinerary usually.

And we are supposed to vist the BMW Museum, but due to time constraint we have to skip it. But well, we managed to get tickets to Bayern Munich match up!

Bayern Munich FC is one of the most decorated football clubs in Germany. We are so lucky to get the tickets for it.

4 Days Itinerary in Munich: Day 1

Drive to Munich, Germany

09:00 Time
9 - 10 Hours Drive from Sens
22.40 Toll Fee
800 km Distance

The drive is 8 hours without any rest stop, but we have cater for at least 4-5 rest stops, and 1 lunch. Usually for drive trips, we will just settle for fast food. And we are there to try out their KFC too! And we also brought along our favorite Chilli Sauce.

Driving in France is boring, 130km/h and for the stretch of 300km, plus a rainy weather. It is so tiring.

And in Germany, you must also try out their Autobahn! The highway with no speed limit at certain sections. You will realise that even cruising at 160km/h there are still cars (especially BMW) poking your arse off! And even when you floor the accelerator, you may not be able to catch up with the cars in front too.

Eat: Iberl's Gasthaus & Biergarten

20:30 Time

After a long journey, we decided to grab some local german food at a restaurant nearby.

4 Days Itinerary in Munich: Day 2

We had a late night the day before hence, we started our day late today as well. On the way to the train station, we were greeted by piles of snow as it snowed heavily the week before. Being the first time seeing snow, of course we will take a few pictures with it.

Getting Around Munich

Eat: McDonald's

13:30 Time

Eating Mcdonald's is probably the most convenient food in Europe. But the menu in Germany is more exciting than what we see in France. They have this new promotional menu call the Rosti Sticks and Rosti burgers. Which in fact it's like hashbrowns in sticks.

And we chose Mcdonald's because the German cuisine is too meaty as we just had German food the night before and going to have it for dinner later.

See: St Peter's Church

Our first stop is to St Peter's Church. Entry to the Tower is surprisingly affordable! For a Panorama view of Munich City Centre for €3 is definitely worth it! But of course, you will need to climb 299 steps to the top of the Tower to enjoy the scenery.

The Interior of St Peter's Church

Climbing up St Peter Church is not for those with difficulty climbing stairs. It has 299 steps and 14 Levels high. And the stair ways are narrow.

If You have difficulty on climbing stairs, please avoid the Tower!

As we were there at around Sunset, it is pretty dark inside of the Church. It's a pretty small Church but from the pictures, the interior should be beautiful.

Shop: Shopping Street - Sendlinger Straße

17:15 Time

We have quite some time for our next schedule which is 8pm for dinner. So we are wandering around the shopping streets in Munich Centre.

Indeed there are quite a number of stores along this stretch. They even have brands like Gucci, LV, and Celine too!

Eat: Haxnbauer -World Famous Pork Knuckles

20:00 Time

We made our reservation via Opentable.de. weeks before our trip.

It is mentioned that this is the best Pork Knuckles in Munich, and menu says it is the world famous Pork Knuckle.

Looking at the queue, we had thought our reservation is worth it and also there are like 300 seats! When we were there at 8pm, the queue was long. Lucky we made a reservation.

We were seated within 5mins, but had to share a big table with another group of 4. It is common in Germany to share table, as we had once in Cologne to share a table at a German Pub as well.

It is another round of meaty food again, this time round we definitely are going to order the famous Pork Knuckle! And also, there is suckling Pig as well! So mai Tu liao, Hoot lah!

As we are seated with a group of Czech Republicans, we were actually chatting with them. Asking where are we from, is Singapore very expensive, how is the weather like in Singapore. And how it is exciting to drive on Autobahn and those cars that is tailing you at high speed (200km/h at least) are the BMWs.

And I told them, what is expensive in Singapore is the car and housing, a starter Volkswagen Golf cost as much as €80,000. Which in Germany, it cost €25000!!

And they encourage us to visit Prague too! Nice chat and an exchange of information!

4 Days Itinerary in Munich: Day 3

Today will be a historical day, we have planned for Dachau Concentration Camp, BMW Museum and a Soccer Match at the Allianz Arena!

But because due to our late start for the day, and the tour at Dachau Concentration Camp took alittle longer than usual, we have to skip BMW Museum. Which also means it is not too rush for us!

Eat: Tirolese Cafe

11:00 Time

This is a recommended cafe for breakfast by our Airbnb owner. It is near the S Bahn where we stayed and since we have time today, why not have a good breakfast ya?

I guess Germany or Munich is famous for their Bretzel aka Pretzel. I chose Bretzel because it seem like a daily staple to their breakfast. French eat Baguettes, Germans eat Bretzel.

Chinese eat rice.

But those white icing on the bretzel, I thought was sugar, turned out to be salt! Kinda weird to have salty bread for breakfast uh?

Still I prefer Auntie Annie's Sugar Cinnanmon Pretzel!

Overall, we had a good brunch to start our day!

 See: Dachau Concentration Camp

In Case You Duno

Dachau concentration camp (German: Konzentrationslager (KZ) Dachau, was the first of the Nazi concentration camps opened in Germany, intended to hold political prisoners.

It is located on the grounds of an abandoned munitions factory northeast of the medieval town of Dachau, about 16 km (10 mi) northwest of Munich in the state of Bavaria, in southern Germany.

Our first attraction of the day was actually a sad place in Germany.

And it is until we are at Dachau, then we realise we have been pronouncing the name wrong. It is actually call "Da Hau" instead of "Da Choo"

I have always been researching online for the reviews of visiting Dachau Concentration Camp. Because Dachau is slightly out of the way from Munich Centre and this is the only place to visit in this area.

But we decided to head here as it is always good to acquire knowledge of Europe history, and especially Germany. We have been to Germany and this is the 3rd time, I am so amazed and impressed on the development of Germany from the defeat of World War 2 and the economic powerhouse in Europe.

We spent close to 4 hours at Dachau Concentration Camp, initially we catered for 2-3 hours, but there was so much to read up that we forgo our next itinerary - BMW Museum.

And of course, we missed eating McDonalds again, and we are there to have our Dinner before the BIG MATCH! FC Bayern Munich vs VFL Wolfsburg.

An expansion was approved in January 2015 to expand the stadium's capacity to 75,000 for Bundesliga Games and 70,000 for games in the Champions League.

We were indeed very lucky to get soccer match tickets for Bayern Munich FC! And so happen on 5th February, they have a match with Wolfsburg, and there are tickets available!

Well, we got ourselves the cheapest tickets but the view is still awesome!

The route to Allianz Arena is very easy. From Marienplaz station, there are a lot of signs pointing you where to take the train to Allianz Arena. And because it is match day, more station crews are assigned to direct the crowd.

4 Days Itinerary in Munich: Day 4

Shop: Birkenstock Outlet

10:00 Time

It is another shopping slot for the girls, and in Germany we definitely have to get Birkenstock right?

Yes! The prices are really discounted up to 70% ! A sandals that cost €70 out in retail cost like €20 ! But of course, some of the goods are having some defects or older stock. Still 70% is too hard to resist !

And as you can see we there were piles of snow lying around, so we decided to have some fun!

The actual and what you normally see in photos!

Drive to Neuschwanstein Castle

12:00 Time
1 Hour Drive
0 Toll Fee
60 km Distance

The route from the Birkenstock outlet is only 1 Hour drive. But if you see from the map above, there is 2 routes to Neuschwanstein Castle. At one point, our car GPS advise us to take the route into Austria instead of staying at the D23 route.

And to drive into Austria highway, you need a vignette sticker. We did not cater for that hence, we have to make a U Turn and go back to the route from Germany.

However, we are in luck. It was snowing heavily during the journey in Austria. We did not have a chance to stop by to play with the snow though.

See: Neuschwanstein Castle

Some Read Up

Neuschwanstein Castle is a nineteenth-century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany.

The palace was intended as a personal refuge for the reclusive king, but it was opened to the paying public immediately after his death in 1886. Since then more than 61 million people have visited Neuschwanstein Castle. More than 1.3 million people visit annually, with as many as 6,000 per day in the summer.

The palace has appeared prominently in several movies such as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Great Escape and serves as the inspiration for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle and later, similar structures.

So, we managed to reach the ticket office before 12.10 to collect our tickets to Neuschwanstein Castle, as you will be required to get the tickets an hour in advance and guided tours are only allowed in the castle.

And so heng! There is no bus service today due to the weather condition. It was snowing somehow, so instead of the 15mins bus ride, we have to climb up the slope for 30-40mins.

Along the way, we see layers of snow, so why not have some fun. But we still have a time schedule to catch.

No Bus Service Today.

Snowball Wars!

We did not manage to capture any of those view

The Queue number will be showed and you will be "usher" in.
