Favourite Paris Food

Whenever our friends travel to Paris, they will ask us. What is your favourite Paris Food? Because we come from Singapore, naturally we prefer Asian cuisines and once in a while we will try out recommendations too.

These are the few favourites that we usually crave. Some cuisines which I am unable to master. So why not hang out a day at Paris then?

And if you are seeking for some French / Italian Cuisines, do read on.

When you travel overseas, it is always good to try out their local cuisines at least once. And please book in advance; because usually they are full during meal times.

Although there are some restaurants that does not accept reservations.

And also, check out their meal times as well. Most of the restaurants do not open all day.

Favourite Paris Food - Japanese

If you are craving for Japanese Cuisine like Hot Soup Ramen, Udon or some Japanese Tempura. You should really explore this part of Paris.

We call them the Japanese Food Street.

We usually will recommend these Japanese restaurants to satisfy your craving. Usually by the 3rd day, most Singaporeans will be craving for some Asian food.

Be it Thai or Japanese or even Chinese.

Because we LOVE Noodles or Rice, right?

Hidden along the streets of 1st arrondissement of Paris, this Japanese restaurant is away from the Busy Japanese Food Street but nearer to the Louvre.  This is the 2nd attempt we tried, as the first time the queue was really long.

And during peak hours expect to queue for at least 30 - 45 mins.

You can try to visit them during off meal times so that the waiting could be shorter.

They are popular for their Tempura Shrimp and Udon (€18) and you can add-on for Tamago Egg. Tasty and yummy.

And they are also awarded 1 Michelin Star as well. Probably that explains the crowd and queue. Small restaurant, so basically is just Queue, Order, Eat, Bye.

Another of our favourite is Udon Jubey. I am usually not a fan of Udon back in Singapore. But this is a Japanese Udon restaurant that you must try.

Located along the Japanese Food Street, you will find a lot of japanese restaurants around here.

They are a pretty small restaurant with a seatings at its basement. Just that when you are at the basement, you have no phone reception.

My favourite menu is actually the Cold Udon with Tempura Shrimps (€17). The cold Udon is tasty, bouncy and Q when you chew it. Very different from those Udon in hot soup.

And when you order it with tempura shrimp, they don’t get soaked out fast and still crispy.

Still along the Japanese street, we always visit this Japanese Ramen for the best value Ramen in Paris. We will also recommend to our friends this restaurant if they have cravings for ramen and some chilli spicy flavorings.

They have a few types of Ramen (€11 - €13), and a set menu comes with Goyza as well. If you love some spiciness in your ramen noodles, you can add 1 Euros for a scoop of Chilli paste. (Ya, 1 euros for that!)

OKA is a tiny restaurant tucked away in the 5th arrondissement that delights all the senses.

At OKA there is no menu. Instead there are three or six dish fixed-priced selections based on the chef Raphaël Rego's inspiration.

From the cosy dining room you can view the activity in the kitchen through a glass window. And it is exciting to watch. Each dish created by is not only delicious but also pretty and structural. There is precision of flavour and texture in  every mouthful.

While all the dishes we tried were outstanding, my favourite was the delicately flavoured cilantro ice-cream with chocolate crumb.

Antoine

In Paris there a wonderfully beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower from an outstanding restaurant named Antoine. French cuisine, specializing in seafood, that simply is out of this world delicious! We spent a very special Valentine’s Day night at Antoine’s, eating and gazing at the Eiffel Tower.

Antoine has a modern design with an open-air kitchen, so you can enjoy seeing the perfectly synchronized staff create. The service is impeccable, catering to every need before you even know you need anything. White table cloths with the tables turned to view the Eiffel Tower of course.

Being Valentine’s Day, our menu for the night was a fixed six course pre-fixed menu with three other tastes to enjoy. I normally do not like pre-fixed menu’s, however I was overly pleased with every course.

My favorite flavor for the night was a soufflé of creamed artichoke with an emulsion of parmesan. With truffles delivered to shave on top- simply delicious!
For outstanding presentation was a “extra” appetizer I am sorry to say I am not exactly positive what it was (but again delicious) was served “on” a bowl covered in plastic wrap with leaves and outdoorsy nature theme beneath.

This was all enjoyed with our wine, 2011 Monopole 1st Cru from Chateau Puligny-Montrachet, Appellation Nuits-Saints-Georges, or a Pinot Noir from the Bordeaux region.

L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon

Joël Robuchon is one of the top Chef’s in the world and of course he would have one of the top restaurants in all of Paris.

Make sure to have a reservation, this restaurant is booked weeks in advance.

Chef Robuchon wanted to make experiencing food a more personable and fun atmosphere, this is why he developed the more open-air concept.  L’Atelier is decorated in a modern sleek design, sitting at the bar is the most fun.

Every course served was just delicious, thought out and with air of excitement.  You could not wait to see the next course. However, the one thing I was anxious to try was his famous mashed potatoes.  Yes, mashed potatoes!

Finally, it was served….OMG. I believe it was one of the richest, creamy mashed potatoes I have ever had.  I also believe there was a pound of butter in them. Regardless, I asked for seconds.

I’d recommend Boullion Chartier to try French food in Paris.  If you’re looking for an authentic French restaurant in Paris, consider visiting this classic restaurant with a ever-changing menu.

When I was there, we tried snails as well as a few other foods off the menu. Just ask your waiter what’s good—and as the menu is changing so much, it will be the best.

Expect to spend less than $15-20 per person, including splitting a bottle of wine (the cheapest alternative).

"Amalfi is an Italian restaurant within walking distance from the Eiffel tower. It's located at 4 Rue Viala in the 15th arrondissement. It's a classic italian restaurant where you can order all kinds of italian foods. We ordered pizza, and they're were delicious, just like in Italy!

The prices are also quite reasonable here as well. We got 2 pizzas for 20 Euro. The ambiance of the restaurant is quite nice too with friendly owners and cozy setting at a calm street.

If you're budget-conscious and want to grab some authentic Italian food, then I recommend Amalfi, especially if you're staying near the Eiffel tower, since many restaurants in this area are overpriced."

Restaurant Il Grano

Restaurant Il Grano is a hidden gem location at the 17th district in Paris. Normal tourist will not exactly stay there. That place is usually more for business travellers and also Singapore Air cabin crews.

If you are looking for restaurants near Le Meridien Etoile Paris Hotel, this is the restaurant you should try out. Don't keep going to the near by McDonalds.

Their pastas / pizza starts from €12, and you may want to top up for their Menu course.

The menu has a lot of varities, the service was excellent and the prices were pretty reasonable. Of all, you will welcomed with a smile from the waitress.

If you are craving for Italian cuisines, you can explore this restaurant. And they are tripadvisor rated top #231/15000+ restaurants in Paris.(at point of writing)

Definitely worth a try right?

  • Noodles are always a good idea, no matter where in the world you are. I love Udon, so it looks like I’ll have a great spot to check out next time I’m in Paris. If I could afford to eat at Joël Robuchon’s restaurant, I would just die. He’s amazing and one of the best in the world for sure!

  • Antoine looks like my favourite spot for sure, absolutely delicious. I always try and eat local foods when I visit somewhere so I’d definitely seek out somewhere French! Thanks for the round-up!
